I am planning to enter Adult Education. Is there anything I need to do to prepare for it in advance? Or do I just wait until I start classes and go from there. When I do start my classes, do I bring the things I bring to regular high school? I don’t want to have overkill, I am really nervous.

I teach classes for a local community college and public school adult education program. There are tons of fun and interesting classes but few students in comparison to the number of people in the community. I look at the catalog of classes and am shocked how few people are taking the classes, just shocked.

Why do so few people continue their education after graduation from college?

I teach Adult Education Classes but am afraid most of the people I talk to have a negative view of Community Education Classes taught through the local schools during the evenings and weekends. They tell me the teachers are poor and most of the classes silly.

Do you agree? What is your experience with adult education?

I found a A computer course their offering at an Adult Education Center for cheap and the course lasts 3 months. I also found the same course at a Community College for a few hundred dollars more but I would only have to take it for 1 month. I’m sure the teaching is better at the Community College. Which one should I go for?

I’m setting up a new service, in the area of adult literacy, but I need a catchy name that avoids the words literacy and basic - to reduce any embarrassment for people being referred to me. I was thinking of Return to Learn, but there’s already a program here by that name. Any suggestions?
thanks for your really unhelpful comment, unclegman. It isn’t about political correctness at all, it’s about allowing people to feel welcome and building a culture of success and positivity around learning for someone who probably had a bad time in mainstream education. Don’t be such a grump!
