How to learn to play Piano in order to write songs?

I sing and use piano to write songs but only very basicly on keys as I have not learnt piano properly, what tips can you give me or what is the best way to learn more in order for me to write better.
I dont mean reading piano music I just want to be able to understand enough to be able to write more complex songs, Thanks!
