How long does it take to learn a programming language?

it took me 5 months but i got really good at it by playing on M.U.D.

For different course subjects graphics operating systems database or learning your first programming language then understand how to be fully competent in heavy detail id say year to.
The same language during that as well.
The language for other years to years first years of complex programming to years to be experienced and regularly use it in heavy detail id say year to be familiar with the language then understand.

It depends on whether you know programming. Learning C syntax should take about 2 or 3 weeks. Learning programming by learning C should take about twice forever – you can’t learn a programming language until you know programming. (People think they’re learning programming by learning a language, but their code screams “I have no idea what I’m doing”. And when they try to find out why it doesn’t work, they couldn’t even rent a clue.)
