In IT circles we always say: we can offer our services to be cheap, fast and best. Pick two, but not three.
Learning to speak (some) Thai isn’t too hard. You can find a girlfriend to do that. Also know as a ‘sleeping dictionary’. You’ll learn street-Thai, which will get you around. That is the fastest (pending your efforts!) and cheapest (pending how much you treat your girlfriend) way to learn Thai.
Better: go to a language school. The fastest – and certainly not cheapest – way is a ‘total immersion’ course. In about 14 days you learn as much as you would in 2 or 3 months time.

Why? Why do you need to speak well? Do you plan to be a missionary, a preacher, a businessman or something less honorable…more sinister?
