How can I learn & keep a New York accent?
Seven Mac-11z asked:
i’m moving to new york in a month and i act in plays so i think it’d be useful to learn the accent for auditions and such. How can i learn AND keep the accent without sounding “fake”? Also, with the many different variations of the new york accent, would it be easy for someone to spot my accent as “fake”? Thanks!

Don’t try to fake a NY accent. If you get a role requiring a specific accent, you will normally work with a dialect coach. People think NY is a single accent, but a Brooklyn Italian-American accent is different from a New Jersey Italian-American accent or a Long Island Jewish accent or an Upper East Side WASPy accent.
